New York pizza is in a league of its own. But with so many options in this city, finding the best slice can be difficult to narrow down. So we did it for you. Queens residents, you’re welcome.
NICK'S PIZZA
Nick’s is an old-school pizzeria that focuses on the basics and does not skimp on quality. Think only fresh mozzarella, housemade sauce, and dough that hits just the right balance between chewy and crispy. They don’t do slices, but with pizza this good, you’re going to want the whole pie anyway. (Location: 108-26 Ascan Ave, Queens, NY)
AUSTIN STREET PLAZA
It’s hip to be square at Austin Street, where they serve up crispy, filling square slices of 'za. Keep it classic or try one of their more inventive pies, like the Upside Down, which flips the script and layers the sauce over the cheese, topping it off with a flavorful Parmiggiano Reggiano. Come for the pizza and stay for the sweets, like the Gibby – puffed dough stuffed with Nutella and dusted with powdered sugar. (Location: 71-63 Austin St, Queens, NY)
DANTE'S PIZZA
Dante’s is a no-frills counter-service joint with a few dine-in seats that serves up consistent, New York-style pies. Don't come for ambiance; come for the friendly, hospitable staff and the satisfying slices dripping with loads of gooey, oozy cheese. (Location: 105-3 Metropolitan Ave, Queens, NY)
LILLIAN PIZZERIA
Lillian has Queens-bred Ray Romano’s stamp of approval (and his photo on the wall), so you know they’re legit. The actor/comedian has frequently name-dropped Lillian as one of his favorite neighborhood spots when he’s in town – maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot him during a random visit. They’ve got a menu of classic pies and more inventive options, like a Grandma-style Sicilian, alongside hearty portions of pinwheels, calzones, heroes and more. (Location: 9601 69th Ave, Queens, NY 11375)
GLORIA'S PIZZA
Gloria’s dishes up consistently tasty slices and makes the list because they boast a massive (six pages!) menu of red sauce style Italian favorites. From mozzarella sticks and rice balls to baked clams and fried calamari, you could stuff yourself silly off the appetizer list alone. Leave room for pastas, salads, entrees, and, of course, a pie or two. (Location: 108-22 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY)
PIZZA CLASSICA
Pizza Classica is the kind of reliable neighborhood spot you’d take your Nonna – and she’d love it. Stake out one of their old-school pizzeria-style booths (you know the type) and dig into a menu of Italian staples and brick-oven baked pies. Locals are especially fond of the Grandma. (Location: 89-89 Union Tpke, Queens, NY)
